Around Arillas

Well known as ‘lighthouse’, it was originally built by the Germans in WW2 to observe both bays, Arillas and Agios Stefanos.

A very good exercise, walking up the hill (aprox. 30 min.) and an awarding view on both bays. On top there are a couple of Cafes. Preferably sunset time.

A longer walk than to the lighthouse (aprox. 1hour) leads through olive groves to the beautiful traditional village of Afionas, which the legends says was built by pirates. The village itself is a sight of it’s own, with the renovated houses, preserving their old style, and the narrow pebbled streets leading through the village.

Reaching the edge of Afionas, the view of both bays (Arillas and St. George) is breathtaking. Very famous meeting point for sunsets.
Quite a few tavernas are spread around the village offering both meals and view.

If you like walking, you should also try the ‘Arillas Trail’(created by the Arillas Cultural Organization, in cooperation with other residents and the Business Union of Arillas.) It will take you around 2 hours (aprox.6 km).

It starts at Arillas beach and goes along the Arillas stream, through olive groves up to Magoulades village. The route is marked with red arrows. You will discover a different side of Arillas, as the areas you’ll pass are of pure nature, with almost no buildings and the tracks you’ll walk are used by the locals to transport their olives to the local olive press.

The trail ends at the Corfu microbrewery.
